In addition to eliminating impurities and excessive non-necessaties from my diet, resulting in a very jittery me at work with a more-than-excited digestive system, I’ve been purging my shower in favor for more natural, organic, and fair-trade products.
I have three tips for ladies out there looking to feel and smell great.
First off, don’t categorize your skin into just one category. It needs what it needs when the weather/your body/time changes. I feel that during the summer months, my skin feels a little more oily whereas in the winter, my cheeks are parched and peeling. Use your products accordingly to self-sooth and keep your skin in check.
Secondly, don’t be afraid of oils. I’m an advocate for rubbing body oil all over yourself post-shower when you’re still damp before you put on lotion. Neutrogena’s Sesame body oil is light-weight and smells refreshing for day/evening wear. I’ve even used the Weleda Almond Face Oil instead of a night cream to deliver much needed moisture. Don’t douse your face in it so your pores will remain unclogged.
Third, the gentler the products, the better. I’ve learnt the hard way that large granules in face scrubs leave small scratches on your face and the “clean, tingly” feeling is really just a raw, sensitized face. Dermalogica’s Rice Micro-exfoliant does the trick of polishing your face, but I like fruit enzyme masks to really exfoliate your skin. You’d be surprised how this switch really clears up acne and problematic skin, leaving it with a balanced PH to heal and recoup.
